Our Origins: Nicaragua

In Partnership with Enliven Cacao, we are investing in a cacao program that is making tangible community impact. When we first purchased cacao from this rural cooperative, the community was able to wire local electricity for the first time.
This year, the community is using their cacao proceeds to invest in an internet cafe that will make the outside world more accessible to them. The goal? To connect farmers directly with buyers like us around the world and reduce dependence on middle men.
We visited this group for the first time in 2017 and have plans to visit again in 2020. By purchasing cacao based on quality - not on the commodity scale - we provide an alternative market for farmers to receive a higher wage for the work, which can subsequently be used for community needs like electricity and global access.
