WHY "ORIGIN STORIES"?

We all come from somewhere.

We can trace our origins
to the people, places & food that connect us.

We all have those people in our lives that we'll remember forever, and that we want to tell stories about to make our friends laugh.

Those people that we remember most fondly across the dinner table sharing a favorite dish,
common laughter, and a full glass of wine.

---

ORIGIN STORIES chocolate bars are nods to those people & memories in our co-founder Lauren's life.

We hope that you enjoy the funny stories, and especially the chocolate.

And in doing so,
we hope you create some nostalgia of your own.

60% Dark Chocolate with Peanut Brittle & salt

Deliciously rich dark chocolate and housemade and hand-stretched peanut brittle. Delightful enough for just about anyone with a sweet tooth, and the perfect combo of salty-sweet.

Origin: Tumaco, Colombia

Tastes like: holiday parties, old friends & peanut brittle.

~~~
Ingredients
Cacao, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, Peanut brittle (roasted Spanish peanuts, cane sugar, honey, kosher salt, butter), sea salt.
The Origin Story
Ms. Susan came over to visit when we were little growing up. She took trips with us to the beach, and would almost always speak to my younger brother and me with softened r's, dropped g's, and just enough of a southern drawl to let the "youngin's" know she was "pullin' yer leg". While she was known in East Texas for her longtime endeavors in food, she now brings us one of my dad's favorite homemade holiday snacks: peanuts delicately laced with the perfect stringing of sugar, a southern staple we call peanut brittle.
Ms. Susan has been my mom's childhood best friend of fifty years. When she comes over these days, the house knows laughter. She and her husband will tell stories until my mom's mascara runs and the guests pee their pants. Peanut brittle evokes both the deepest feelings of seasonal nostalgia and the best family memories.
Enjoy this southern staple and some good humor with this single origin dark chocolate topped with flakey peanut brittle.
Lemon White Chocolate with Poppyseed
Harkening the fresh citrus bread often glazed with something sweet, please enjoy our debut of organic white chocolate infused with bright lemon & poppyseeds.
Origin: CacaoLife, Peru
Tastes like: Lemon Poppyseed bread
Inspired by our founder's childhood
~~~

Ingredients

Organic Cocoa butter, Organic cane sugar, whole milk powder, organic sunflower lecithin, organic poppyseeds, lemon oil, vanilla extract.

The Origin Story

Growing up, my family and I ate desserts on any and all occasions. Baking was our expected form of leisure. From Dad's blueberry angel food cake, to Mom's banana bread and chocolate chip cookies, to the rare and personal favorite lemon poppyseed bread.

A dense sweet treat that speaks to me of Louisiana summertime when hot afternoons became the backdrop to plastic-pool playtime, dancing in a backyard sprinkler, and giggling girl birthday parties.

With sunshine coming through the kitchen windows, I'd eat popsicles with friends at the counter, asking Mom what she was baking or hoping she would let me cut through the warm cake before it had cooled. This classic treat evokes a carefree summer with childhood friends, either coming home from the swimming pool or dusting off sand from a trip to the beach.

Harkening the fresh citrus bread often glazed with something sweet, please enjoy our debut of organic white chocolate infused with bright lemon & poppyseeds.

The perfect balance of sweet with a touch of smoke (cold smoked nibs, yum!), paired beautifully with some bruleed sugar. A nod to some of our favorite desserts, namely creme brulee and bananas foster.

Origin: La Colonia, Nicaragua
Tastes Like: smoked bananas foster

Inspired by banana's foster & trips to New Orleans

~~~
Ingredients
Organic Cocoa butter, Organic cane sugar, whole milk powder, organic sunflower lecithin, organic poppyseeds, lemon oil, vanilla extract.
The Origin Story
One summer in college, my dad and I took a trip south to New Orleans where the jazz music hums through the streets whether or not anyone is playing, and where you can pick up 'cracklins' or crawfish on the side of the road.
We took the backroads through tiny towns whose restaurant delicacy remains a humble ham sandwich with mayonnaise. By the time you get to NOLA, the food scene evolves into arguably one of the most remarkable in the country. Fortunately for me, when my family eats out there's one meal we don't skip: dessert.
Whether we're pot bellied full and laughing with too many glasses of wine, we'll always make room for something sweet. So when my dad and I decided to have breakfast on our last day in the French Quarter, we eagerly ordered banana's foster. A dessert made for good showmanship, and apparently also welcome at the breakfast table.
Reminisce your bold food memories and enjoy the showmanship of this smoked Bananas-Foster vibe chocolate topped with shards of caramelized sugar and salt.
60% Oat & Coconut Milk Chocolate
This bar, although far from simple, speaks of comfort like home and is dutifully named after our No. 1 Fan.
Origin: Tumaco, Colombia
Inspired by our founder's No.1 Fan
~~~

Ingredients

Organic cacao, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic vegan milk blend (organic oat flour, organic coconut milk powder, organic sunflower lecithin)

The Origin Story

My mom, it turns out, has the rare gift of larger than life enthusiasm. A collegiate gymnast turned fitness professional, she opened an aerobics studio in the 1980s, ripe with spandex, high kicks and bouncing energy.

When I was born, she closed her studio and subsequently carried her Richard Simmons energy to every childhood soccer game, to parent cheerleading-pyramids, and to carpool rides where she wore fake buck teeth and drove around the neighborhood's circle drive like a crazed eighty-year-old.

When I think of my mom, I imagine her mid-high kick rallying the troops to cheer on a gaggle of children. These days she just shows up at Markham & Fitz to order four chocolate tarts for herself, a specific and now expected allocation.

This bar, although far from simple, speaks of comfort like home and is dutifully named after our No. 1 Fan. Share this enthusiastic oat & coconut milk chocolate with your No. 1 Fan.
